Jonesboro - Believe it or not, spring is just around the corner.  And talk of a new spring semester at NEA Career & Technical Center revolves around efforts to recruit new students to career and technical education.

During the fall semester, Student Affairs Director Sherry Bookout started the process by setting up dates for students from area NEA schools to shadow students and instructors in programs of study they show interest in.

High school students in grade 10-12 may enroll.  There is no direct cost to students for their enrollment or attendance.  Students that enroll at NEACTC historically tour the center during the spring semester in grades nine or ten and then contact their school counselor to enroll.

Representatives from NEACTC welcome the opportunity to attend career and job fairs across NEA at area high schools and discuss career skills they will earn at the technical center.  Speaking to area students at their high school gym, auditorium or classrooms is also sought by NEACTC administrators and the student affairs department.

As Bookout notes, "So many students learn about the opportunities at NEACTC and become very skilled in the field of their choice."  NEACTC Director Eddie Crain added that, "Our students earn those skills without any tuition cost or fees as long as they enroll during high school and allow us the opportunity to assist them in acquiring great skills. Those skills have the potential to lead to high-paying careers that meet the needs of our NEA business and industry partners."

As the old adage notes, this is truly a win-win partnership for all involved.
